Interviewed 3 landscape architect firms. Magma Design Group provided the most interesting and comprehensive design concept. Very natural looking as if it had always existed. Working with Neil and Samantha was wonderful. Schedules and budgets were adhered to as promised. The execution of the project was flawless. We've received numerous compliments from family, friends, and people who notice and stop by. It's an urban Oasis in the city. Most importantly, the design and stonework is "artistically" natural and amazing. Neil really knows his trade and is heads above others in the business.
It is with great pleasure that I recommend Magma. I cannot say enough good things about them as professionals who delivered a quality product with a personal style. While a local, family business they operate with a perfect balance of big company professionalism and small business nimbleness.
Our project scope changed and grew several times and they were always willing to discuss our new “greatest idea”, offer candid advice on how it would/would not work, might delay the project and/or increase costs. There were never any surprises, and with the exception of some unexpected weather delays, they delivered everything on time or early.
My favorite part of the Magma team is that they approached the project from a professional standpoint with an eye of building with a “built to last” mentality...Neils’ stone work is extraordinary; it is truly a work of art. Watching him lay the stones one by one and ensuring that they fit every nook and cranny was like watching a master painter at work (and sort of fun to see if he could really find the proper stone for the proper fit). And Samantha’s passion for plants and flowers shone through at every stage; we had some tough conversations about removing trees that to a novice were just trees and to Samantha so much more, but in the end, we preserved the centuries of growth, created proper shade and have a beautifully natural looking space.
Magma Design is an amazing company. Their design was built around our concept and the space, and they made whatever adjustments we needed until we had the perfect design. The work was done in a very timely matter, workers cleaned up as they went along, and the project went off without a hitch ... and fully within our budget. After working with lots of contractors over the years, we just couldn't believe how smoothly all of this went. I would highly recommend them to anyone, and would be happy for folks to stop over and see the gorgeous prayer and meditation garden that we are all now enjoying.
Neil and Samantha did a phenomenal job designing and building our yard. Their ideas and workmanship created a space that created so much more than what we had in mind.
We had a yard overhaul which consisted of a rebuilt retaining wall, goshen stone steps and flagstone, deck, water feature, fire pit and sandbox. Highly recommended!
I have hired Magma Design for several significant landscape design and installation projects over the last decade. There design ideas are inspiring. They easily accommodate input from the owners as to personal preferences but also stretch your thinking. And the execution of the plans has been flawless. The work they have done for us has won awards. I have also referred Magma to friends who were highly pleased with their work.
After viewing photos by Magma Design Group, Inc. on their website, I was immediately drawn to their unique landscape design and custom stone work. I was living in a new development at the time and had decided that my cookie-cutter yard needed an attention-grabbing makeover. After spending time with me and getting a sense of my personal vision, owners Neil and Samantha Best presented and implemented a beautiful, colorful design complete with a bubbling water feature and patio created with hand-cut bluestone flagging. In a separate project they designed a stunning stone garden in a low, wet area of my property that was underwater with every torrential downpour. The rain garden collects and holds rainfall during these events, allowing it to seep into the ground gradually without flooding the area. I couldn't be happier with the result or with this couple who is incredibly talented and passionate about the work that they do.
